Wow didn't see that Wilson play until now. Cannot believe that wasn't 5 minutes. If there is no suspension it's a joke. Should be at least 5 games

I didn't have an issue with the OT call either.

Maatta continues to be a detriment on the ice. His blunder right after Malkin gave the Pens the lead brought the Caps right back in it where the Pens could have had the momentum. He needs to sit. It's pretty bad when I have more confidence in Lovejoy than I do with Maatta. Daley has played well for the Pens but last night he wasn't good. Sid had an off night too.

It's like clockwork with Wilson. The guy continues to hurt players and will continue to do so. Nothing will change as long as he keeps getting slaps on the wrist.
He'll continue to run players no matter who the opponent is. He's a piece of garbage.

Way off topic, but on a hit like that would a player have any ability to file a lawsuit against Wilson.

Presuppose that hit was a career ender for sheary. He's out something between 700k a year for his career or potentially Kunitz money for 10 years. The hit had zero hockey purpose. Since the league won't enforce it could he make an argument in court that it was assault (since it lacked hockey intent) and get a huge claim in the process.

Suppose that Sheary is out of work for his career he wouldn't have any reason to maintain relations with the NHLPA or other powers that be.

Kinda looks like Wilson has his knee extended waaay before he initiates contact (i.e., preemptively)

and then at the last minute it looks like Sheary tries to side step Wilson but still gets the knee (because it's already there).

I think for the refs this might make it look a little less blatant because it doesn't seem like Wilson extends his knee last second because he knows he is going to miss the hit (which is the classic knee-on-knee).

Still a knee regardless.. But there was another knee-on-knee contact that game and it was by a Pens D-men on I believe Burakovsky during a two-man collision. That was also clearly a knee (maybe not as bad) but I guess you just conveniently left that out so you could blame the Pens loss on a missed call against them... homerism at it's finest.

Wilson has been running around trying to end guys careers since he came into the league. He destroyed Visnovsky last year against NYI and the series turned. Time to take the law into their own hands and send a message loud an clear.

I'm not a pens fan - that was a blatant knee and should have been a major penalty.

Beat me to it! I don't even like the Pens, but that hit was atrocious! Blatant intent to injure. The NHLPA shouldn't want guys like that in their organization.

Yeah I'm not trying to explain why it was legal (because it obviously wasn't). I'm just trying to show why it might not be so obvious from the refs perspective and how easy it is for us to judge when we have the convenience of being able to see the entire run-in from this angle and the ref might have only caught the last part and possibly from a worse angle.

I also just don't like hearing writers putting the blame of the loss on the refs missing a call. Sure they missed a call there, but they missed a lot of calls, that's the way it goes. If you think they have a special agenda against the Pens then you are a lunatic (not saying anyone here or RW is). And otherwise you kinda just gotta roll with the punches because officiating is never going to be perfect.

Refs miss stuff, it happens to every team. My real issue is with NHL player safety that hands out a token fine when players are deliberately attempting to hurt someone. It’s not a deterrent and it’ll just keep happening.

I am no fan of either team in this series but I’d like to see the best players playing in the playoffs…not see a number of them missing the games due to cheap shots.

My only point with that analysis was that Wilson actually sets that knee up in a deceptive and preemptive way (which actually makes it a more dirty/sneaky play).

i see what you were getting at, I just think between the 4 officials someone needed to make the call on that. If both refs missed it, a linesman should have stepped up. That was dangerous.

still mostly annoyed with nhl player "safety"

I don't have a dog in the fight, but that was a pretty big missed call. I'm not saying the Pens would have won if the refs got it right, but it certainly would have given them a huge opportunity to take over the game.

My big complaint is the league continues to let scumbags like Wilson on the ice. I blame the NHL not the individual refs.

I also kinda think Wilson intentionally veered to the right before contact so that he would miss the hit and get the slew-foot / knee contact more (while also making it look like partially Sheary's fault for side-stepping instead of just taking the hit).

Anyways, the only way I see something like this being suspendable is if Sheary is injured. Otherwise, maybe a major penalty was justified (does that automatically mean a game misconduct?).

Tom Wilson is a useless plug much in the same way a lot of those bottom six Penguins were in recent memory.

There was something up with him in game 2 of the Rags series, no?

Looked totally fine after that game.

Honestly, they should have looked at Sheary on the ground, looked at Wilson standing there and just made a call to their best judgement. I think they are being too cautious of calling something too minor in the playoffs just because they didn't see they full thing and can't be certain. And that uncertainty leads to things like this going un-called.
